Reactive Dog Training in Lancashire

Walks shouldn’t feel like a military operation.

If your dog barks, lunges, freezes, fixates or becomes difficult to control around other dogs or people, I can help.

Dog’s Perspective provides practical, individual reactive dog training across Lancashire, helping you understand what is driving the behaviour and teaching your dog how to respond differently.

1-to-1 training • Real-life environments • Individual approach

When every walk becomes about avoiding other dogs

You spot another dog.

You shorten the lead. Cross the road. Look for somewhere to create distance.

Your dog has already noticed them and you know what is coming next.

I regularly work with dogs that:

  • bark or lunge at other dogs

  • fixate and struggle to disengage

  • react to people, bikes or other distractions

  • become highly frustrated on lead

  • ignore their owner once distracted

  • have become increasingly difficult to walk

  •

Reactivity can look very similar from the outside while having very different causes.

That is why I don’t start with a generic technique.

I start with the dog in front of me.

Reactive doesn’t always mean aggressive

Fear, frustration, excitement, insecurity, previous experiences and repeated behaviour can all contribute to reactivity.

Simply stopping the barking isn’t enough.

We need to look at what happens before the reaction.

Can your dog notice another dog without fixating?

Can they disengage?

Can they still listen to you?

The aim is to influence the behaviour earlier, before your dog reaches the point where they are too aroused to respond.

How I work

Training may include:

Engagement
Building stronger attention and communication between you and your dog.

Disengagement
Teaching your dog to notice a trigger without becoming locked onto it.

Lead handling
Helping you manage walks more clearly and confidently.

Real-world training
Practising skills in the environments where you actually need them.

The goal is not simply a dog that reacts less.

The goal is a dog that can make better decisions around things that previously caused a reaction.

Reactive Dog Assessment

The assessment is the first working session.

I will meet you and your dog, discuss the history of the behaviour, observe how your dog responds and begin identifying where the training needs to change.

Where appropriate, we will start practical exercises during the session.

Afterwards, I will recommend the most suitable next step based on your individual dog rather than placing everyone into the same programme.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can reactive dogs improve?

Yes. Many dogs can make significant improvements with consistent training and good handling. The outcome depends on the dog, the cause of the behaviour and how established the pattern has become.

My dog is friendly off lead but reactive on lead. Can you help?

Yes. Lead reactivity is common and can have several causes. The assessment helps establish what is happening with your individual dog.

Does my dog have to meet another dog during the assessment?

Not necessarily. I do not deliberately overwhelm a dog just to create a reaction.

What happens after the assessment?

I will recommend the most appropriate next step. That may be individual sessions or a more structured behaviour programme depending on what your dog needs.

Ready to make walks easier?

The first step is understanding why your dog is reacting and where we need to start changing the pattern.
